Arrival in Juba. Meet your guide and transfer to Pyramid Hotel, near the airport and the city center. After some rest tour around Konyo Konyo market where different types of South Sudanese tribal people can be met. The meat area is worth the visit despite the strong smell. Near this market it is possible to visit a Murle refugee camp to get a close idea of the effects of persisting tribal wars in this young African nation. Lunch in a Lebanese restaurant and afternoon visit to the old botanic garden in Juba’s old town. Dinner in the old town and overnight

Day 2: Juba – Terakeka – Juba

Breakfast and drive to Terakeka, former capital of Terakeka State, today part of Central Equatoria. It was a former Missionary and trading post along the White Nile and today it is a bustling cattle and fishing center. Upon arrival we will visit the old port with a couple of centenary ficus trees and we will explore the market where we can meet Mundari tribal people with interesting tribal marks and tainted hairdos. Lunch in a local restaurant and return to Juba in the afternoon. Dinner in a restaurant near the Nile. Return to the lodge for the overnight

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Juba city and travel to Mundari villages

Upon arrival in Juba city, you will be welcomed with our knowledgeable tour guide, he will give a simple briefing about the whole trip and then immediately start moving towards the Mundari villages. South Sudan is still a virgin country with a lot of untouched land. Drive through the vacant land that makes the land to appear like semi-arid, the view here extremely outstanding. Arrival is in the late evening to just check in at the lodge, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Mundari cattle camp and community

Today you will wake up early to catch the sun rise over the South Sudan plains, a perfect time for photography. The whole day you will keep interacting with the Mundaris, visiting the cattle camp, Nykabor village where you are to have your lunch. The day will expose you to the local way of life for the Mundari people, how they rare their cattles, the most famous game played here; wrestling and so many other things that make up the Mundari beliefs and cultires.

Day 3: Drive back to Juba to Dinka village

After breakfast, it’s time to say good bye to the Mundari. Now start your journey to The Dinka. Driving to the Dinka village will still take you through Juba city. It’s a four hour journey, however you will drive at your own pace, having several stopovers at places of your convenience for photos as you wish. Arrival at the camp is still in the evening, for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Dinka village experience

Today you spend the day at the Dinka camp. The Dinka’s are known as the world’s tallest people and today is the day you will prove. See their way of life, taking care of their cattle, the community elders keeping law and order in the camp, ladies taking care of homes and family, simply a virgin setting that is worth experiencing. You will feast on the local food today if you wish. In the evening return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Drive back to Juba

After breakfast, drive back to Juba town. On arrival in Juba town, you will have lunch in a random restaurant to taste the local cuisines that the people of South Sudan dine on. You will then visit the country’s largest market; the Konyo Konyo. Visit the presidential palace, Garang Mausoleum and the Jubek Tomb where the town got its name from. In the evening proceed to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Departure

Today is the end of your South Sudan Tour. The driver guide will drop you at the airport immediately after breakfast for you to catch your flight back home.

Day 1: Arrival In Juba

Arrival in Juba. Meet the guide and drive to the hotel, not far from the Nile and Konyo Konyo central market, best place to feel the pulse of the city. Introduction to South Sudan and chat with the guide about the plans for the day. Change some money and visit the market area and old Juba town. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight

Day 2: Juba – Mundari Cattle Camp (3h)

Breakfast. Introduction to Nile River cattle rearing cultures: Dinka and Mundari, the differences between them and their present day situation. After the explanation in the hotel we will visit the Murle refugee camp near one of Juba’s oldest mosques and the British botanical garden, small but interesting, just beside the White Nile.

Have lunch in a Syrian restaurant and after some rest we will drive to the Mundari territory. Arrival at the Mundari cattle camp with several thousand heads of long horned cows and bulls. We will see the arrival of the animals to their sleeping grounds by 6 pm in the evening. Meet the young Mundari and admire the tight relationship with their cattle. Sleep near the cattle camp. Overnight in tents.

Day 3: Mundari Cattle Camp – Juba – Flight Back Home (3h)

Breakfast. Farewell from the Mundari tribe and drive back to Juba. Last visits and shopping. Day use at Royal Palace Hotel. At the appointed time transfer to the airport for international flight back home.

South Sudan Tour: Five Days Tour

The 5 Days Nile and Plain Tribes of South Sudan start in Juba city, then take you to Mundari, Kapoeta and Toposa tribe communities. These are 5 massive days that duck you into South Sudan tribes like no other package

Day 1: Arrival in Juba – Mundari (1h)

Arrival at Juba International airport. Lunch in a restaurant near the White Nile and visit to Konyo Konyo market. In the afternoon, drive to a Mundari cattle camp. Meet the tribal leaders and observe the magical arrival of the long horned Ankole cows to their resting place.

Day 2: Mundari – Juba – Kapoeta (7h)

Breakfast. Early morning photos of waking up of Mundari tribe and their sacred long horned cattle before they leave for grazing. Drive to Kapoeta, East Equatoria’s Far West style capital. Reach the city and meet first Toposa tribal people.

Day 3: Kapoeta – Toposa Tribe (2h)

After breakfast, we will drive to a traditional Toposa community out of Kapoeta. Drive to a remote Toposa region to meet the people in their ‘boma’ –fenced village-. Reach the tribe and meet the elders and local chief. Welcome ceremony and tour around the village. Toposa belong to the Ateker Nation that includes the Turkana in Northern Kenya, the Karamajong in Northern Uganda, and the Nyangatom in Ethiopia. Their economy depends entirely on cattle. In remote areas, Toposa women still dress skin beaded skirts of great beauty and scarify their faces and bodies. After the visit to several Toposa villages, we will return back to Kapoeta for the night.

Day 4: Kapoeta – Larim Tribe – Torit (4h)

Breakfast. Drive to Didinga territory and reach Camp 15, a market place where Didinga and Larim tribes meet every day to commerce and gossip. Meet local authorities and drive to Boya Hills, a special area for plant lovers (many rare species). Larim people number a few thousand individuals living on the foot of Boya Hills (they descended from the top around 20 years ago looking for better pastures for the cattle and to get near the water points –scarce in the region-). Larim scarify their bodies and faces, pierce nose, ears and lips and smoke nicely carved wood and metal pipes. It is a rich culture and its symbol are the unique houses built in wood and adobe, and decorated with snail shells and drawings. After the visit, drive to Torit town for the night.

Day 5: Torit – Juba (2h)

Breakfast. Drive to Juba. Arrival and pick PCR test result (not necessary to go to laboratory – cost 100 USD). Last visits (John Garang Memorial, artisan market, and old town with a few colonial buildings from British period). At the appointed time, transfer to the airport. Flight back home.
